Pollution due to excess fish feeds suspected

PILI, CAMARINES SUR - THE Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) regional office has sent experts to probe a reported "fish kill" after hundreds of dead Tilapia were seen floating the surface of Lake Buhi in Barangays Sta. Elena and San Buena, villages near the town proper for the last three days.

BFAR provincial fishery officer Santiago A. Noblefranca said "we are investigating the report after TV footage on the fish kill was shown in the local news the other day."

Vox Bikol Online's rank and reach in the Internet have dramatically risen in recent months. Vox Bikol Online (www.voxbikol.com) has recently breached the 100,000th rank, a requisite for Alexa to give the site more detailed performance monitoring. It's one-month Alexa rank is 58,431st.

Legazpi City (25 June) -- Albay Governor Joey Salceda declared that the toll fee hike imposed by the South Luzon Tollway Corporation (SLTC) is illegal because the franchise given to them by Philippine National Construction Corporation (PNCC) has expired and has not been renewed.

Salceda said the concession agreement between SLTC and PNCC commenced in May 2006 while the franchise given to PNCC expired in May 2007, without being renewed by Congress.

Camp Elias Angeles, Pili, Camarines Sur (22 June) -- Army engineers have completed P175 million worth of infrastructure projects under the Kalayaan sa Barangay Program (KBP) in Camarines Sur province, a military officer said over the weekend.

Major Harold M Cabunoc, 9ID Philippine Army spokesperson, said that some 138 completed infrastructure projects were turned-over to the local government officials of Camarines Sur in a simple turn-over rites held at the provincial capitol Friday (June 18).

CANAMAN, CAMARINES SUR - THE DISTRICT Engineer in the newly created Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Camarines Sur 5th district office died on Sunday, (June 20) after being confined at the Aquinas University Hospital in Legazpi City.

Sources at the DPWH 5th district engineering office bared that District Engineer Elmer P. Francisco was supposed to start his duties in the newly created district office on Monday, (June 21) after filing a sick-leave since June 1 this year.

Legazpi City (25 June) -- The Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) in Bikol has maintained that three rivers in the region reported earlier as biologically dead are actually not dead at all, according to the agency's regional official.

There is nothing much that is happening now. Outgoing president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is supposed to be wrapping things up while incoming president Noynoy Aquino is busy preparing for his inauguration and is in the process of finalizing his line-up for his Cabinet. Now is the period of anticipation.

The Filipino people have waited for six and a half years for June 30 to come. The clamor for Arroyo to step down from power has been going on for eight long years.

MANILA, June 25, 2010-Incoming Education Secretary Bro. Armin Luistro said he will conduct a comprehensive review of the sex education program as soon as he assumes his post.

Luistro of the La Sallian Brothers, a Catholic religious order, vowed to take steps to make sure the sex education modules do not contradict Christian values.

While there are programs of the education department that needs to be continued, he said, the issue on sex education is something that needs careful assessment.

MANILA, June 23, 2010-Romulo Neri needs to tell the truth about the botched NBN-ZTE deal, and who are the involved government officials-before it's too late, a Catholic prelate said.

Retired Archbishop Oscar Cruz believes the outgoing Social Security System president is an "honest and competent" person had he not tried to protect the Arroyo government.

It's just "unfortunate," he said, that Neri, who was then director of the National Economic Development Authority, was identified with the outgoing administration.
