Sipocot, CamSur (10 April) - A huge multi-sectoral protest action against the Libmanan-Cabusao Dam Project (LCDP) is set to be held on Wednesday, April 14 in the municipalities of Sipocot and Lupi, Camarines Sur.

The protest action is led by the Alyansa kan mga Namamanwaan laban sa Dam or AnDam (Alliance of Concerned Citizens against the Dam) which is opposing the implementation of what has come to be known as "Dato's Dam" following the sponsorship of the said dam project by Congressman Diosdado "Dato" Arroyo.

Legazpi City  - More than 10,000 visitors have flocked to Bikol for the duration of the Holy Week commemoration, reported the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).

Based on PCG Bicol's records, an estimated 8,900 passengers have entered the 11 ports of the region since Holy Thursday (1 April). This number was expected to have reached 10,000 by Saturday, 3 April.

LEGAZPI CITY, March 23  -- Law enforcement authorities are on high alert and have fielded additional personnel to maintain tranquility and promote solemnity during the observance of the Semana Santa (Holy Week) across the region.

Joint elements of the Philippine National Police (PNP), and various units of the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) have launched "Oplan Semana Santa" designed to maintain order in various churches, major roads, airports, ports and other critical infrastructures, where people might gather to observe the Holy Week from March 29 to April 4 this year.

Legazpi City (25 March) -- As more party list groups are being exposed as fronts of Gloria Macapgal-Arroyo and her allies, the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan-Bikol (BAYAN-Bikol) is mulling filing a disqualification case against Ako Bicol for being unfit to represent marginalized Bikolanos.

According to BAYAN-Bikol, Ako Bicol is composed of contractors and close Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo associate and businessman Elizalde Co is their chairman; Co is the biggest contractor in the region.

PILI, Camarines Sur, March 16 - Incidences of violence continue to happen in the island province of Masbate despite the signing of a peace covenant among opposing political leaders here as two supporters of poll candidates were gunned down in the past two days, a military report said.

Major Harold Cabunoc, chief of the 9ID Public Affairs Office, quoting the report from Special Task Force (STF) Masbate, said that Ireneo Lumahog, 51, a resident of Barangay Tubog, Pio V. Corpuz town, was shot dead by two heavily armed men around 1:30 p.m. on Monday.

PILI, CAMARINES SUR (13 March 2010) - The current cloud seeding operations being conducted by the Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM) under the Department of Agriculture (DA) is costing the agency some P2.5 Million, according to an official report of the DA regional office here on Friday (March 12).

Intended to mitigate the effects of the worsening dry-spell in Bikol region, the BSWM's cloud seeding operations targeted the worst-hit areas in the island province of Masbate, in Camarines Sur and Albay.

The Region V Office of Department of Agriculture RFU 5 has recently started cloud seeding, a form of weather modification in which the amount or type of precipitation that falls from clouds is changed by dispersing vacuum dried salt into the clouds 2,000 feet from the ground. A mitigation effort against the ill effects of the El Niño phenomenon, the cloud seeding had resulted to rains in the provinces of Camarines Sur, Albay and Masbate. (RAFID5)

MANILA, Aug. 1  -- Former Philippine president Corazon Aquino died early Saturday morning at age 76 after battling colon cancer for over a year, her family said.

Corazon Aquino's son, Senator Benigno Aquino III, confirmed that the former Philippine leader died of cardio respiratory arrest at 3:18 a.m. local time Saturday (1918 GMT Friday) at the Makati Medical Center in the country's capital Manila.

Aquino was diagnosed with the disease in March 2008 and has been confined at the hospital for more than a month.

NAGA CITY-Mayor Fermin Mabulo of San Fernando, Camarines Sur said the proposal to carve a new district out of the first district of Camarines Sur was a political move meant to accommodate Budget and Management Secretary Rolando Andaya and Representative Dato Arroyo.

"I am not against any effort to reapportion the province of Camarines Sur or to create new districts. I am only questioning the motive," said Mabulo.

Panlilio said he is already prepared to take the challenge amid the snowballing calls for his presidential bid.

He said he decided to welcome calls for running for a high position because he believes the country needs the best from Filipinos.

Panlilio said he will offer his self to the Filipinos in whatever capacity the country will need his services.

DAET, Camarines Norte-Representative Liwayway Vinzons-Chato of the lone district of Camarines Norte said Saturday that the House bill proposing to reapportion her province into two districts was "being held hostage" by the House bill that also seeks to reapportion Camarines Sur into five districts.

"The bill already has been passed in the committee level. But its passage in the plenary level is put at risk by the opposition of a similar bill seeking to reapportion Camarines Sur," said Vinzons-Chato.

There is almost revivalistic or nativistic about the news that the trains will run once more to Bikol. It has the feeling of the Second Coming. For me anyway.

The major papers carried already photos of the coaches, some being refurbished and some just needing some cleaning. I can picture these trains passing by towns and villages that have died temporary deaths when the trains stopped running.
